Introducing Queen City Crowdfunding
Queen City Crowdfunding is a volunteer organization launched in 2014, whose mission is to strengthen the Cincinnati region by increasing the crowd-financing of local businesses and projects. We want local entrepreneurs and creative individuals to build the businesses that generate jobs and improve our quality of life.
Increasing Public Awareness
While crowdfunding is growing quickly, many people in this region have not heard about it, or are only vaguely familiar with it. We will be featuring local entrepreneurs’ great ideas in local media and at local events, to increase the public’s awareness of crowdfunding.
Closing the Funding Gap
We have connected with many, many entrepreneurs who have the ideas and energy to create successful businesses, but do not have the personal connections or cash to finance their venture until they are profitable and bankable. Crowdfunding is filling that gap around the world, and we want Cincinnati to be in the forefront of that success.
Leveling the Playing Field
Our region has built a strong support system for the ultra-high-growth ‘gazelle’ ventures that attract venture capital. QCC helps those ventures, but we also support the vast majority of businesses that do not appeal to traditional investors but together create many of the middle class jobs that are the backbone of the region.
The Dream Team
Jim Cunningham managed the operations of the Queen City Angels startup investor group for 13 years before launching this site. He was also President of TheCircuit, the information technology association of the Cincinnati region. Earlier he was a business and finance attorney in private practice and in two privately owned tech companies. While an attorney he was selected for Who’s Who in American Law and The Best Lawyers in America, and was a founding Fellow and a Regent of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers, the national honor society of attorneys in that field. He currently runs Triannic LLC, where he is a volunteer mentor for local startups.

Miami University Crowdhawk Launch Team
Queen City Crowdfunding is fully dedicated to spreading awareness and promoting crowdfunding as a viable option for startup businesses, ideas, and projects in the Greater Cincinnati Region. As part of this effort, QCC joined forces with Miami University’s Farmer School of Business – Institute for Entrepreneurship to give students real world experience in startup financing and marketing. Miami professors Mark Lacker and Jessica Reading led this initiative, teaching market segmentation in the context of QCC to students from an array of business and non-business majors and minors. The students learned about crowdfunding through researching current trends and online portals in the growing market. Then the students dug deeper in their research of crowdfunding understanding, perceptions, and use in the Greater Cincinnati Region. The Queen City Crowdfunding team enjoyed working with a great group of passionate students, and hopes the Miami CrowdHawks will continue exploring the growth of the startup industry and entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Miami University’s Farmer School of Business – Institute for Entrepreneurship has been recognized both regionally and nationally:
- Entrepreneurship faculty have been awarded more than 20 distinguished teaching awards.
- Ranked “Top 25 Best Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Programs” each of the last six years by Entrepreneur Magazine and Princeton Review.
- “Best Program in Social Entrepreneurship” in 2012 by the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers (GCEC).
